This past year, Salem College Libraries (SCL) has gained two new additions to their library staff, new resources for students to use and outreach initiatives. The library staff has reached out to the Salemite to introduce themselves and these new resources to the student body. Their goal is to connect with Salem students and offer assistance with research.
Salem College has two libraries – Gramley Library and the Fine Arts Center Library. They employ five librarians, two paraprofessionals, and 40 student workers. The two new librarians – Ebony McDonald and Lara Crews – are committed to assisting Salem students with research and citations. They both work in Gramley Library and are available by appointment. They provided the following bios to the Salemite:
Bio: Ebony McDonald, Research and Learning Librarian, located first floor of Gramley library near elevator.
Started in 2017. From Charlotte, N.C. MS in Library Science (MSLS) from UNC Chapel Hill and her BA in History and International Studies from UNC Charlotte. Has worked in various types of libraries in North Carolina and abroad. Surprising library-related fact: I would not say reading is a hobby at all. I only read about two books per year for fun.
Bio: Lara Crews, Information Services Librarian, sits at the Circulation Desk
Started in 2017. From Kernersville, N.C. Masters in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from UNC Greensboro and her BA in History from Salem College (C ’06). Was a children’s librarian for six years. Surprising library-related fact: I have three closets full of self-made costumes that I used to wear for my previous library job.
Faculty members at Salem College Libraries are actively working on offering new resources and outreach programs. Some new resources available to students are CredoReference- a research startup database- and Mango Languages- a new language learning software. A new outreach program includes a Black History Month African American Genealogy workshop with Karen Feeney of the Forsyth County Public Library. It will take place on Feb. 27, 2018 in the Library Assembly Room on the third floor of Gramley Library.
