Wednesday, Morticia Uncle Fester, and Gomez are all here.
Salem College’s Pierrette Players are putting on The Addams Family for the 2016 spring musical. In this musical comedy, based upon The Addams Family television show, Salem students are playing the creepy, kooky roles.
The Addam’s Family stage manager Molly Blanchard refers to show as family friendly but remarks that there is still a hint of “adult humor” for the older audience.
“This is one of the best productions I’ve been in at Salem,” says junior Kerri Hughes. Hughes plays the role of Alice Beineke who is the wife of Mal Beineke and mother of Wednesday Addams’ boyfriend Lucas Beineke.
Hughes describes the play as being “a twist on an old classic.”
Hughes continues, “people who know The Addams Family from the show or movies will enjoy the continuation of the story of Wednesday and her family and newcomers will fall in love with America’s weirdest family”
Sophomore Shania Guy plays the role of Gomez, one of the main characters.
“I love playing Gomez. He’s a funny character to play. He is very high energy, yet he’s super suave,” says Guy.
“People should come see The Addams Family because this is one our largest productions yet. This is a Broadway show that is very popular and it is being performed by your very own Salem Sisters/Sibs,” Guy continues.
“I am absolutely in love with this production,” says assistant stage manager Erin Wertz. Wertz assists with the play’s set work, lights and sound.
“This show is super funny, the cast is amazing and everyone has worked hard on it being the best show possible,” says Wertz.
Hughes agrees with Wertz’s appraisal.
Hughes says, “Our cast is phenomenal, our set is beautiful and our costumes range from stunning and sexy to laugh-out-loud hilarious. You can’t beat that.”
The Addams Family will be in the Drama Workshop of the Fine Arts Center on March 10, 11 and 12 from 8 to 10 pm. Salem student tickets are $8 and outside community is $10.
