Do you want to learn more about the backstage process of putting on a play?
A Hungarian playwright, Janos Degi, is putting together a dramatic production currently entitled “Megan, Boston Marathon” about the Boston Marathon bombing that took place in April 2013. The play follows the life of a college student living in Boston before and slightly after the tragedy. The play seeks to identify the feelings of those in the area who were both involved in what happened and those who were simply passersby.
Two Salem students, Sophomore Emily Ramser and First-Year Sarah Vick are working with the playwright in order to help translate the play from Hungarian to English. As a part of an independent study they are doing with the playwright and Communications professor Janis Overlock, Ramser and Vick are putting on a read through of the production in April on the anniversary of the tragedy. They are currently looking for students who are interested in being a part of the production.
“Janos’s work is intriguing and really experiments with the idea of what a college student might have been thinking and doing during this whole tragedy. I think it would be beneficial to students, as it would help them both with their acting skills while introducing them to different cultures.” said Ramser when asked about why students should audition.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, March 17 in room 307 of the science building from 8 pm until 10 pm.
If you cannot make this time but would like to audition, please email Ramser at firstname.lastname@example.org or Vick at email@example.com. There will be approximately five rehearsals leading up to the actual performance, which will take place on April 15 in Shirley Recital Hall. Please come out and audition!
Contact Sarah Vick or Emily Ramser at their Salem emails if you are interested in auditioning.
