With spring coming up and everyone back on campus, people are looking for things to do. In particular, most people are in search for something to do off campus. While students love campus activities, sometimes they just need to get away from it all. One way to do so is by checking out the Winston Salem Writers.

Winston Salem Writers is a group of writers from the area just as the name suggests. What is interesting about the group, though, is that they put on two regular events each month.

The first of the two events is the 4 Poems & A Party. All around downtown Winston-Salem there are short poems posted through a program known as Poetry in Plain Sight. 4 Poems & A Party is a release party of sorts for these poems where the writers for that month’s Poetry in Plain Sight read their works. It is a great opportunity for Salem students interested in meeting writers in the community. It typically happens the first Saturday of the month about 1 PM at Barnhill’s Books.

The other event Winston Salem Writers puts on is an open mic night. While several organizations around campus put on open mic nights on a semi-regular basis, this open mic night is open to the greater community. The Winston Salem Writers February open mic night will be on the 17th from 7 to 9 PM at Delurk Gallery on West 6th Street.
