The JanTerm Experience: “From Monterrey, with Love”

My Name is Silvia Ayala and I am a junior at Salem. I have been given the opportunity to intern with Omicron Solutions in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico during January Term. I specifically wanted to intern here because I have family in Monterrey that I haven’t seen in quite some time. Fortunately, this specific company needs help with their marketing strategy since they are expanding, making this is the perfect time for me to intern with them. When I arrived here, I found out that Omicron does not have a marketing department at all. This means that I will be brainstorming on my own and that the company will be seriously taking what I propose they do into consideration. This is exactly what I have been doing since I arrived. I’ve been applying everything that I’ve learned about marketing during my years in college and offering suggestions to them. Right now, I’m in the process of analyzing their website and their Facebook page. I am also conducting research in terms of looking at how competitors are promoting themselves and how they are using social media. I am learning so much more than I imagined! Besides working, I´ve been spending time with my family and learning more about my native city. One of this city’s landmarks is the mountains called Cerro de Silla. They are beautiful! I enjoy the scenery everywhere I go.

I am excited to be here and to continue to learn more!
