New United Nations Achievements in Environmental Efforts

“The heat is on. Now we must act,” stated Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in response to the newly announced conclusions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The IPCC, sponsored by the United Nations, declared human action to be the prevailing cause of climate change since 1950. Greenhouse gasses emitted into the air have amassed over the past decades and are leading the global community to an abysmal future. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change binds governments in their responsibility to keep the global temperature annual increase under 2 degrees Celsius. Implementing the report as a catalyst, Mr. Ban is organizing a Climate Summit to assemble in September 2014 to expedite the process of finding a solution to this issue effectively. Decisive action on the part of the United Nations and other collaborative entities could prove to be the difference between a deleterious ecological disaster and an adaptive solution to reduce global emissions.
